If you love to find new ways to workout and are visiting NYC, especially from Canada, you need must check out Soul Cycle. Although there are imitations in Canada, nothing beats the original. It’s a fun way to burn calories and challenge yourself through the super popular workout classes. For $20 per 45-minute class, you can fit in a workout before starting your day.
Soul Cycle is a full body workout that involves push-ups, arm workouts, and other moves – all while on the bicycle, and all patented! Thus, other spin classes try to emulate, but can never duplicate.

Soul Cycle is often acclaimed by celebrities and for good reason. For the time you’re there you’re on a bright yellow bicycle experiencing a full-body fat burning workout, surrounded by darkness, illuminated only by candlelight.
I’ll admit, the first time I took a class I thought I was going to die within the first two minutes. I felt my thighs cramping up, and my breath escaping me, I was amongst the horde of cyclists around me who clearly had all done this before.
However, after those first two minutes, I learned how to pace myself and steady my breathing. It was hard, but do-able! I ended up taking three Soul Cycle classes while in NYC and felt amazing after each one. Here are some tips I recommend to better your experience:
Bring $2 for a bottle of water
It’s annoying to have to buy a new bottle on top of paying for the class, but the water bottles they sell fit perfectly into the holsters, while most other water bottles do not. You’ll need water if you want to survive.
Dress in your best workout clothes
The women and men in these classes are usually seasoned veterans. I tend to do by best when dressed in my best as well. Good thing the Nike store is right around the corner.
Get to class early
Don’t be that awkward straggler who stumbles in a few minutes late. The dim lighting makes it hard to fit a bike, strap your shoes into it, and get started. If you do, a Soul Cycle staff member will have to guide you with a flashlight – embarrassing!
